As we go into the weekend, this Fill Your Cup Friday, I am focusing on self-care for the mind.

Our brains are constantly going, and we often need to take time to slow down and pause. Activities that focus on the mind force us to be conscious about our mental health and well-being. Here are five things you can do today –

1) Turn off technology – If you are like me, your mind is going a million miles a minute as you switch from computer screen to phone screen to tv screen. Dedicate an hour (or more) to no screen time. Rest your eyes and your mind. Take some time to have a conversation with a friend or loved one. Take a nap. Do what you must but disconnect.

2) Change your routine. Switch it up a bit. If you usually start your day by catching up on emails in your office or desk, move to another room for the first part of the day. Or… instead of diving into work, use that time to meditate or read.

3) Find mini-vacay moments in your day. This is one I share with clients often. What aspects of your vacation can you hold on to when you return home? Was it the scenery? Or not having a set schedule? Whatever it is, how can you tap into that for 5-10 minutes a day? For me, I loved listening to the ocean when I was going to sleep. So now, nearly every night, I listen to Drift on the Shine app to help me hold on to those moments.

4) Keep a journal. Write down your thoughts, your dreams, your ideas. Revisit them and revise them. This is an excellent opportunity to get your creative juices flowing and possibly discover your true passion.

5) Do something that brings you joy. This could be anything from listening to your favorite genre of music while you work to lighting a candle infused with your favorite scents to laughing with your kids. Whatever it is, find time to do it every day.

What are some self-care for the mind tips you can share?
